Who we areThe American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization, and is committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of America's largest veterans service organization.

what we doCathay Post 384 was founded in 1931 and is one of the most active posts in San Francisco. Post 384 is also the oldest Chinese American post in The American Legion.
Cathay Post 384 recognizes The American Legion's role in the betterment of our community. Our post proudly supports JROTC in San Francisco schools. Cathay Post 384 marches in the Italian Heritage Day and the Mayor's Salute to Veterans Parade (Veterans Day) parades. Our post also hosts a luncheon for Marines and sailors during Fleet Week. Cathay Post 384 participates in, and holds many other events around The City. |
eligibilityMembership to the American Legion Cathay Post 384 is open to ALL service members and veterans, who have served at least one day of federal active duty in one of two war eras.
On July 30, 2019, President Trump signed a bill called the LEGION Act (Let Everyone Get Involved In Opportunities National service Act). Under the Legion Act, membership to the American Legion was expanded to include all service members serving from April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918; and now those serving from December 7, 1941 to present. Male and Female persons that meet eligibility criteria are also welcome to join the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA), or Sons of The American Legion (SAL). |
